Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Toronto Argonauts and Ottawa REDBLACKS Renew Partnership with Interval House of Hamilton After Reaching More Than 1,000 Youth Through Gender-Based Violence Prevention Programs
HAMILTON ON – Following a year that saw more than 1,000 youth engaged in conversations about healthy relationships, respect, and leadership, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Toronto Argonauts, and Ottawa REDBLACKS have renewed their commitment to supporting Coaching Boys into Men and Canada CLEAR (Coaching Leadership, Equity and Respect).
Through the Touchdown Program, player ambassadors from all three organizations connected directly with youth across Ontario, using the power of sport to promote healthy relationships, positive masculinity, and violence prevention.
The program brings professional athletes into schools and community settings where they share personal experiences and engage young people in conversations about respect, accountability, consent, and the importance of building healthy relationships.
“The impact of these conversations extends far beyond the field,” said Sue Taylor, Executive Director of Interval House of Hamilton. “When professional athletes speak openly about respect, leadership, and standing up against violence, youth listen. Together, these teams helped us reach more than 1,000 youth last year, and we’re excited to build on that momentum.”
The collaboration demonstrates the growing role that sport can play in addressing gender-based violence and creating positive social change. By leveraging the influence of coaches, athletes, and sports organizations, the programs encourage youth to become leaders who promote respect, challenge harmful behaviours, and help create safer, more inclusive communities.
This year, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Toronto Argonauts, and Ottawa REDBLACKS will continue supporting youth engagement activities, community outreach, and awareness initiatives designed to help create safer communities across Ontario.
“Our role in the community is something that is incredibly important to our organization,” said Adrian Sciarra, President of the Ottawa REDBLACKS. “We’re proud of our players, who have embraced the opportunity to serve as mentors, connect with young people and reinforce the values of respect, leadership and accountability. The platform we have as an organization is one we never take for granted and we’re excited to continue this partnership as we work together to make a lasting, positive impact on youth throughout our community.” – Adrian Sciarra, President of the Ottawa REDBLACKS.
“On the field, we’re competitors. Off the field, we’re proud to stand alongside our fellow CFL clubs in support of the important work Interval House of Hamilton does to prevent and end gender-based violence”, said Amanda Heeren, Senior Manager of Community Partnerships, Hamilton Sports Group. “Together, we can use the strength of our league to help raise awareness and make a meaningful impact in our communities.” – Amanda Heeren, Senior Manager of Community Partnerships, Hamilton Sports Group
“We take great pride in our Ontario rivalries, but as a team and a league we are still better together. Hence, the Toronto Argonauts are thrilled to team up with the Tiger-Cats and Redblacks once again to support the Coaching Boys into Men, and Canada CLEAR programs, and having our players participate in the Touchdown Program.” – Michael Clemons, Toronto Argonauts General Manager
