  1. 1983
    • A group of feminist women and men come together at the Central Presbyterian Church with the goal to open the first Hamilton shelter that exclusively serves abused women and their children
  2. 1986
    • Opens its doors (King St. East) as a 20 bed advocacy-based shelter for abused women and children
  3. 1990
    • The first Legal Advocate Support program in Ontario
  4. 1996
    • The Provincial Government announces $2.59 million in capital funding to build a new shelter. Hamilton Health Sciences donates land at the Chedoke site on the West Mountain.
  5. June 16, 1998
    • Interval House of Hamilton holds a groundbreaking ceremony for the new shelter
  6. April 15, 1999
    • The new shelter opens as the first and only Mountain shelter
  7. July 9, 2002
    • Clare Freeman is hired as Executive Director
  8. November 3, 2006
    • Celebrated 20th anniversary at Sheraton Banquet Keynote Speaker: Denise Brown, sister of the late Nicole Brown Simpson
  9. November 2006
    • New funding is obtained for a clinical counselling program
    • Pilot Project with Hamilton Children's Aid and Catholic Children's Aid Society established to provide clinical consulting when violence against women and child welfare intersect to provide services to women with children.
  10. June 2007-2009

    • Women Centre of Hamilton amalgamated with Interval House of Hamilton and opens at new location 100 Main St. E., Suite 205
    • Flamborough Women's Resource Centre opens in Waterdown (2009)

    • Celebrated 25th anniversary at Carmen's Banquet Centre, Keynote Speaker: Dr. Mohit Bhandari
  18. 2013
  19. Funding received through Ontario Trillium Foundation to establish MentorActtion.  A group of male leaders in our community to "stand up and speak out" on the issues of gender-based violence and violence against women.
  21. May 01, 2015
  22. Clare Freeman resigns as Executive Director of Interval House of Hamilton.  Nancy Smith, Executive Director

  23. 2016
  24. Purchased the rights of Be More Than A Bystander program and brought this work to Hamilton.  A partnership of MentorAction and The Hamilton Bulldogs. 

    November, Interval House of Hamilton 30th Anniversary Gala held in recognition of 30 years.

    McMaster Athletic joined in partnership with Be More Than A Bystander program.
