At Interval House of Hamilton, 2021 marks 35 years in providing service to women, with or without violence who have experienced abuse, violence, or human trafficking. This significant benchmark is a time to reflect on those 35 years, to thank the Hamilton community for their ongoing support and, most importantly, the thousands of women who have accessed our services over the years. The tremendous courage of the women who have entrusted our staff with their experience of abuse, violence or human trafficking is an inspiring demonstration of bravery.

Interval House of Hamilton started as an emergency shelter for abused women and children in 1986. Since then, through research and best practice, we grew as an organization to meet the needs of women and their children so that we could meet the diverse complexities of families experiencing abuse, violence, or trafficking.

Today, in addition to our 22-bed Shelter, Interval House of Hamilton incorporates a diverse range of community programs through the Women’s Centre of Hamilton, Jared’s Place Legal Advocacy and Resource Centre for Women, the Flamborough Women’s Resource Centre, and the MentorAction Be More Than A Bystander program to end gender-based violence. Our MentorAction Be More Than A Bystander program partners with and Hamilton’s elite sports teams, to challenge existing societal norms that perpetuate gender-based violence to build a community that is safe and violence-free.

The global pandemic has created many ongoing challenges. We sincerely thank our funders: the Ministry of Community, Children and Social Services (MCCSS), Ontario Women’s Directorate (OWD), the Hamilton Community Foundation, and the City of Hamilton for entrusting us to provide services. We thank you…our donors. Through the incredible dedication of our staff, we have been able to keep our doors open throughout the pandemic and provide ongoing support for women and children fleeing abuse/violence.

As we embark on our special 35th Anniversary year, we are thrilled to announce a new logo, highlighting 35 years of service to women and children. Interval House of Hamilton – Saving and changing lives every day – 35 Years of Hope.

Throughout the next 12 months, we will be unveiling events and partnerships in honour of the 35th anniversary milestone. We are honoured to be able to provide or services in our community. Thank you, Hamilton, for your support. We hope you will join us in celebrating our history, our future goals, and the many women and children we have had the honour to work with over the years.
